I watched in horror on the video of a maid stampeding on the fragile body of a toddler no older than my princess..the toddler was kicked, stamped, shoved and slapped till she was lying flat on the floor. After she managed to pick herself up, she was seen rubbing her sore back and chest by herself..still sobbing..

My heart broke into pieces..mum was screaming in anger in the background..where is humanity?

Not too long ago, my ex-student sent me a few slides about an eight year old boy from Iran who stole some bread. For this act of crime, the hand which he used to steal the bread was put under the wheel of a truck ready to be crushed. According to the rule of their religion, this will serve as a reminder for the offender not to commit the crime again..my heart sank as I saw the expression on the boy's face. He was only eight. He was hungry. He lost an arm for an act which was caused by the society's problems. He will never be able to write with that broken right arm..ever again..

My trip to cambodia once a again saw the other side of life..this time..there were more beggers on the roads..due to the economic downturn..babies were still running around unclad..toddlers were still playing in the dumpsite along with human feaces on every space you can find..the residents in the slums lead their daily lives..they went about their routines while we wept in our hearts for them..

We can't change their way of life..nor their lives..but we can teach them to learn to change the way they lead their lives. With education, many issues can be solved and many lives will be improved..but this will take time..many things take time..

Time is essential..to learn..to think..to heal..
